Work-based learning, or extended learning, experiences are an important part of a child's education. While most learning does take place in the classroom, there is also a world of exploration outside of the classroom walls. Work-based learning opportunities, such as job shadowing, internships, service-learning, mentoring, apprenticeships and worksite tours expose students to the world of work and the training and skills that are necessary in order to succeed. Students take what they learn from these experiences and begin to understand the relevance of their school work.
